Finals time at MCAD.. that means too much black tea and late nights for seeLyle. Last week, I decided to change the concept of my animation final, no big deal. I'm doing something a little shorter, and easier. I bit off more than I could chew at first, and I'm going to save that other stuff for a summer project. Things are going pretty well, hung out with my man Izmir the other night, and had a mini movie marathon and did some independent art. Izmirs doing a mural outside of corepower yoga, which I'm pretty amped to see. Art on glass. I'm working on animations, and of course the dreaded actionscripting, (it'll come in hand in the future.) I've been listeneing to alot of the new flaming lips lately, it only took me about a year to warm up to it, but its pretty good stuff. I've been struggling lately with not having my artwork look too much like what I'm inspired by. I'll create a project, and notice that I'm almost imitating a certain style. I guess its all about refinement. But, more to work on here, but here's a sneak peek at my final animation, ill post a vimeo link when its done.

Celestial Lights

There was a show the other week called celestial lights. It was at the Loft, a smaller club above barfly in Minneapolis. This was a collaboration of local musicians, and visual artists. There was dubstep, electronica, funk-electronica (if thats even a genre ) and techno. This was all accompanied by an amazing laser light show. To accompany the music, live painting was taking place all around the stage. I was one of those painters. It was an amazing time.

All photo credits go to Nicholas Patton, who did a great job.
EDIT: actually, only the middle photo is nicks. But he did a great job, I'll post more soon.

Some of my earlier stuff

Number one would be a bass drum that I modified and attached 8 sound sensitive neon cathode lights onto it, the sound sensitivity is adjustable, and I fashioned mallets using steel rod and red fabric. Just a demo video of it.

The 2nd video is an experiment with final cut, and a composing program call reason. Just playing around with effects and text.

The third is a modified 80's Maxxell commercial, I used final cut, and some tools from reason composer to make part of the soundtrack.

number_1!

This is the first entry to my blog!  My first bit of inspiration will be a video from the talking heads movie: "Stop Making Sense" it's a great video with awesome progressions, david byrne goes through multiple costume changes, and has some great visuals near the end. I want to have a future in doing visuals for performance use. So I thought it was awesome. I HIGHLY suggest watching the whole video.

Much more inspiration to follow. My art coming soon!
